**1982 land/cover use values distributed by 1997 land cover/use values.  Example: The 1982 total cultivated cropland acreage (21,228,200 acres) has been distributed in the first row by the 1997 land cover/use.

The intersection of 1982 values with 1997 values represents the acres that have not changed land cover/use between 1982 and 1997.  Example:  2,475,000 acres that were pasture in 1982 remain pasture in 1997 and 299,700 acres that were pasture in 1982 had been converted to forest by 1997.
