Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention

The Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act, Public Law 83-566, was passed in 1954.  The primary purpose of the act was to reduce damages to our water and related land resources that resulted from flooding, erosion, and sedimentation.  Since its passage, as national priorities changed, the program was amended to include a wide variety of purpose and objectives.  Today, almost any water related issue may be addressed through the program.

NRCS implements the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act through three programs:
