Elderberry

Hardiness Zones: 3-9

Growth Rate: Fast

Site Requirements: Full to partial sun. Moist locations, especially streambanks, lowlands and woods.  Drought tolerant.

Soil: Moist, organic. 

Height: 5 to 12 feet

Width: 8 to 12 feet

Flower/Fruit: Small, berrylike drupe, purple-black, and very juicy, up to 1/4 inch in diameter, borne in flat-topped clusters, maturing in late summer.

Comments: The berries are a very valuable food resource for many birds.  Only blue berries are edible.
