State cost-share money was used on this project to create a native plant buffer above rock riprap on Cross Lake, near Pine City. The buffer, planted in June of 2003, provides habitat for butterflies and dragonflies, while filtering runoff entering the lake (above left).
A native plant buffer was planted on Island Lake in northern Pine County, above an un-mowed shoreline area. Planted in September of 2002, the buffer helps to improve water quality while helping to stabilize the toe of the shoreline (above right).
