Abandoned Manure Pits – Cost-sharing is now available through EQIP to assist landowners with filling in earthen lagoons that are no longer needed. Below is an example of a lagoon being closed last fall. All manure and contaminated soil must be removed and properly land applied on suitable fields. After removal, the area must be inspected by a Pollution Control Official before the pit can be filled. The area is then seeded to a vegetative cover. Please contact the NRCS for further information.
