Resource Conservation & Development Councils (RC&Ds) are based on the idea that local people know what their areas need and can create solutions that will work for them and their communities. Groups of local volunteers establish RC&D Councils, which represent sponsoring organizations within a multi-county region. RC&D Council members volunteer their time to address important issues in their communities. The greatest strength of the RC&D Program is in local people working together to solve their own problems. The development of local leadership and community pride is a key part of RC&D projects and is one of the primary reasons for the success of the RC&D Program. The Mid-Minnesota Mississippi River RC&D Council includes representation from Benton, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright counties. Representation includes a county commissioner and a Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Supervisor from each county. Staff from the SWCDs and Natural Resources Conservation Service assist with the day-to-day operation of the council. The Mid-Minnesota Mississippi River RC&D is pursuing a full-time coordinator to accelerate project development and implementation. Mid-Minnesota Mississippi River RC&D Council documents: |
