Up Water Festival Adult Education Poster Contest Envirothon Educational Links Fun Page Stormdrain Stenciling

Stenciling is a great opportunity for community members and groups (girl scouts, boy scouts, church groups, 4-H, lake associations, and homeowner associations) to come together and help the environment!

Stenciling by storm drains will help remind people that it is not safe to dump waste down the drains.  Materials disposed of in the storm sewers do not go to a water treatment facility; they go directly into the nearby wetland, lake, stream, or other groundwater supply.   Chemicals dumped into the storm drain will reach the same water we use for fishing, swimming, or boating.  No items should be dumped into the storm drain including: paint, motor oil, antifreeze, pet waste, lawn clippings, detergent, cigarette butts, or litter.

Before you start to stencil your neighborhood make sure that members of the group you are with know why they will be storm drain stenciling!

Contact the Chisago SWCD @ 651/674-2333 or the Chisago County Environmental Services Office @ 651/213-8383 if you are interested in participating in this program.
