Looking for a fun artistic way to show you care about your natural resources? The Chisago Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) participates in a statewide Poster and Video Contest with the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD), as well as an Area III Essay Contest. Any 5th or 6th grade students living or going to school in Chisago County may design and enter a poster. The Video Contest is broken into two categories: Junior Division-Grades 5-8 and Senior Division-Grades 9-12 The Essay Contest (this contest is run locally and at the Area III level) is broken into three categories: Elementary Division-Grades 5-6, Junior Division-Grades 7-9 and Senior Division-Grades 10-12 For Soil and Water Conservation District purposes, the state
of Minnesota is
divided into eight different areas. Chisago County is located in Area III, along
with the counties of North St. Lewis, South St. Lewis,
Lake, Cook, Carlton, Aitkin, Mille Lacs, Kanabec, Pine, and Isanti. All public
and private high
schools, or home school groups, in these counties are invited to participate in the
above contests as well as church or scout (boy/girl) groups. "Trees...Rooted in the Future" is the 2007-2008 statewide theme for the Poster and Essay contest sponsored by the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation District’s (MASWCD) and the Chisago SWCD. The purpose of this contest is to give students an understanding of what they can do to become better stewards of our land and water.
