The Minnesota Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative

The Minnesota Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative (MNGLCI) recently met on March 26, 2009 in Waite Park, Minnesota. The MNGLCI is an independent organization of livestock landowners interested in assisting NRCS with implementation of USDA conservation programs on private grazing lands. The main purpose of MNGLCI is to educate the state’s livestock landowners on proper grazing management. Through this assistance MNGLCI hopes to achieve greater profitability for grazing operations while promoting ecologically sound management on the state’s private grasslands.

At the meeting the following members of MNGLCI were elected to serve in leadership positions: Clarence Caraway, Lake Benton, was elected Chair; Richard Erickson, Isle was elected Vice-Chair, and Nathan Redalen of Rochester was elected Secretary Treasurer.

Minnesota NRCS State Conservationist, William Hunt expressed his appreciation for the ground breaking work of the immediate past Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative (GLCI) officers. Outgoing chair, Ralph Lentz, of Lake City, and outgoing vice-chair Art Thicke, of La Crescent are original founding members of the MNGLCI.
