Tillage Practice Guides

Minnesota NRCS recently developed a Tillage Practice Guide for use in the state of Minnesota.  This guide provides details on differences between the USDA-NRCS Practice Standard 329 for No-Till, Strip Till, Direct Seed and the Practice Standard 345 for Mulch till. A copy of this guide can be obtained from the Minnesota NRCS webpage at the following location: http://www.mn.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/ecs/agron/Tillage%20Practice%20Guide.pdf

This guide uses the Soil Tillage Intensity Rating (STIR) ratings and amount of surface disturbance to define each of these practices.  It can be useful when doing conservation planning and when working with programs like EQIP and CSP where producers can get incentive payments for these practices.
