News Feature 9/14/2007 National RC&D WeekNational Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) designated the time frame of September 23-29, 2007 for National RC&D Week. This week is designed to raise greater public awareness of RC&D Councils and their activities in local communities. National RC&D week coincides with the anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Act of 1962 which established the RC&D program. RC&D week was declared in recognition of the anniversary of the designation of the first 10 RC&D areas. In the past 43 years the program has grown from 10 designated areas to 375 designated areas that cover over 85% of the United States and its territories. RC&D is a unique program that is led by local volunteer councils. RC&D is a way for people to work together to plan and carry out activities that will make their area a better place to live. Such activities lead to sustainable communities, prudent land use and the sound management and conservation of natural resources. Resource Conservation and Development Councils are made up of volunteers who serve their communities in all 50 states and US territories. RC&D Councils identify, address and solve the challenges needed to sustain and improve the quality of life in their own communities.
