Conservation Planning "Investing in Our Future"

A conservation plan is the starting point for managing natural resources on your farm acreage while maintaining productivity and meeting individual objectives/goals.  Every farm has its own unique natural resource concerns.  Without the application of proper conservation systems and management, human activities may cause natural resource problems or concerns that may include:

  • SOIL being washed into bodies of water;
  • WATER quality problems because of water quality degradation;
  • AIR transporting livestock odors or soil particles;
  • PLANTS overgrazed, the possible encroachment of invasive plant species, or the decline of wildlife habitat; and
  • ANIMAL waste not managed properly.

A conservation plan combines your farming skills with science-based knowledge and skill of the conservation planner.  With Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) advice, landowners select the best possible combination of conservation practices to meet natural resource needs and individual management goals.

For more information about conservation planning, please contact an NRCS field office in Minnesota. Click in on the following web link and you will find a listing of every NRCS field office in the State of Minnesota: http://www.mn.nrcs.usda.gov/contact/directory/area.htm
